A wine weekend that transformed two Karoo towns into one of South Africa’s most loved wine destinations.
In May 2014, the very first Stoep Tasting Wine Weekend took place in Graaff-Reinet. Five independent wine producers poured their wines from five beautiful Karoo stoeps, with just 45 tickets sold. It was a simple idea built around great wine, welcoming people and the unique charm of the Karoo, it marked the beginning of something truly special.
Today, Stoep Tasting has grown into one of Africa’s premier wine tourism weekends, bringing together some of South Africa’s finest wine and spirit producers across the historic towns of Graaff-Reinet and Nieu-Bethesda. Visitors spend the weekend wandering from stoep to stoep, meeting the makers behind the labels, discovering exceptional wines and spirits and enjoying the relaxed pace that makes the Karoo so unforgettable.
Alongside the main tasting experience, the weekend also offers a variety of optional food and wine events, including wine dinners, specialist tastings, art, music and other carefully curated experiences.
Your ticket includes your tasting glass and entitles you to taste, discover and purchase wines across both Graaff-Reinet and Nieu-Bethesda from Thursday, 27 May to Saturday, 29 May 2027 during official tasting times, allowing you to explore the festival at your own pace as you travel between the two towns throughout the weekend. Producer participation is by invitation only and ticket numbers remain intentionally limited to preserve the intimate atmosphere that has defined Stoep Tasting since the very beginning.
